The Paradise Complex is the first full length album from the Australian band Nexus. This is not your ordinary progressive metal band. This is an intense album which takes it's influence from later Death perhaps Cynic but with a progressive melodic twist.
Lyrically they have done an incredible job. This album takes you on a science fiction journey and tells the story of a starship commander named Raethe. They have done such a thorough job of creating this story they have even created it's own language for portions of it.
Musically and vocally the band is top notch. First of all, the combo of vocalist/drummer is incredibly unique. The drumming is extremely technical, precise, and fast. However, be aware the drums are at the center stage on this album. They are right up there along with the guitar. It takes some adjusting to get used to but it is a nice change of pace and adds a great twist on this album. Vocally he growls and roars with the best death metallers. The guitar transitions nicely between technically fast and heavy to various slower tempo and melody.
Overall this is a great release. Fans of Death and Cynic will surely enjoy this band.
