Brutalism

Nierty is a band from UK featuring couple of members from the band Hecate Enthroned (vocalist and guitarist). The music performed by Nierty is quite different if you might image a correlation between the two.

Nierty performs a mix of dark down-tuned primitive Grinding Doom/Black filled with a demising atmosphere emitted solely through their guitars’ sound.  Although I used the ‘Doom’ terminology, the sound is almost Doom, however speedy parts are also included in their package. In fact it can be better labeled as ‘Doom-meets-Grind-meets-Black' (?). This band sounds quite underground unlike Hecate Enthroned and perhaps Nierty is purely meant to be Underground judging on their performance.

The band uses a drum-machine with an almost ‘metallic’ sound especially in blast-beats, which at times remind me of the Scottish Death Metal band Desecration. This feature gives an ‘Industrialized’ touch to their music which makes them somehow unique in a way. The beauty of this release stands on certain guitar riffing typically found in old school Doom/Death Metal bands of the early 90’s which makes this release satisfactory for old-school metal ears.

Having the vocalist of Hecate Enthroned, as part of the line-up, the voice performance is too different from what is presented on the mentioned band. In Nierty, the vocals are quite weird and odd, enough that it took me time to get used to. Growling sounds fine, but the screaming parts sound a bit ‘childish’ (which might be intentional) however having said that, such performance boosts the demising atmosphere Nierty is presenting to us.

When it comes to the very quality of music, I cannot say it is bad but definitely not outstanding. The overall recording production is dirty but clear enough to understand what is going on but at times during those speedy moments, the musical clarity sounds like lacking since the guitars are a bit echoed and the volume of the drum machine sounds slightly high, which is a pity but overall, it is not a bad release either!
