On a dark night in London town, heavy metal vampires run free, no it is not a novel, but it is Stuka Squadron. James ‘Fang’ Begley may be familiar with fans of Centurions Ghost; the first recorded vocalist of that band whom has since branched out and joined a new band, a true heavy metal band. Begley’s voice is much better suited to this style and musically, if you like Iron Maiden, you will pretty much adore this EP release. Perfect production welcomes the listener and Harris and Bailey could have penned the bands signature tune respectfully. Pure unadulterated heavy metal, galloping rhythms and shrieking guitar solos represent pure metal intent. ‘Lovecraft’ takes inspiration from the said novelist, and takes you down a slighter darker path whilst exploring the great range of the said vocalist. ‘We Drink Blood’ brings out the vampire in us all with lyrics of motorbikes, leather, and of course, vampires, it is all here. Traditional metal song arrangements give light and shade in the relevant places, like that on the signature tune or the slower, bouncy snarl of ‘One-Eyed God King’.
Heed the call; these vampire pilots are ready, NWOTM leaders they are, conforming to mainstream media they are not, but simply masters of their own destiny.
