Burial Place interview
Burial Place were born in 1994 playing a kind of music really different from tomorrow's.
After some line-up changes in 1997 was recorded the first demo tape ’The Majesty of The Ancient Island’ at No Brain Studio (Zianigo - Venezia) that reach encouraging critics notwithstanding the little budjet available.
In 1998 Burial Place started to write new songs for the minicd ’Burial Place’ that was recorded at NoBrain Studio and that contains six tracks of melodic death black metal. The mini-cd was recorded in a best professional way than the first demotape because of the higher budjet available and the new song denote a noteworthy growth under the technical and compositive aspect. The new work reached good critics everywhere and some tracks were included in compilations like ’Black Tears of Death vol.VI, Sturm und Drang I, The shadows Realm II, Atalntida Comp. Morover it was distributed by BTOD prod., Pulsar Rec., Adipocere Rec., Angelisc Enteprise, Last Episode, etc... and sold nearly 1000 copies.
In Jannuary 2001 Burial Place entered in studio again to record a promo tape ’Damnation’ that contains two tracks of symphonic extreme metal + intro and outro (singed by the soprano voice of Giovanna).
In ’Damnation’ appear as guest Leonardo Castellani of Ensoph (Keyboards arrangements), Nicholas of Ensoph (backing vocals) and Daniele Zabeo (Remorse) on double bass. After the recording session of Damnation Simone, the drummer, left the band and in july 2001 Giacomo joined Burial Place.
Damnation is distributed in cooperation with B.T.O.D. Prod. and is printed in 200 limited and handnumbered pro - recorded tape with glossy coloured covers.

Please give us a short introduction of yourself?
Burial Place were born in 1994 and after some line-up changes in 1997 was recorded the first demo tape ’The Majesty of The Ancient Island’ at No Brain Studio (Zianigo - Venezia) that reach encouraging critics notwithstanding the little budjet available.
In 1999 was recorded the minicd ’Burial Place’ that contains six tracks of melodic death black metal. The new work reached good critics everywhere and some tracks were included in compilations like ’Black Tears of Death vol.VI, Sturm und Drang I, The shadows Realm II, Atalntida Comp. Morover it was distributed by BTOD prod., Pulsar Rec., Adipocere Rec., Angelisc Enteprise, Last Episode, ecc... and sold nearly 1000 copies.

Are you satisfied with what you wrote? Or would you like to make it more fancy?
No, I’m really satisfied of the good work that we made during the compositive period and during the recording sessions.
What is the fun of playing in a band?
There is nothing fun to play in a band, it is a passion. I’m a musician and play music is a way to put the energy out of myself.
You play symphonic black metal. Not afraid of putting too many elements in the songs?
We composed our songs with the intention to create what people will go to listen to. Our music is a blend of black metal, heavy metal, and classics influences and we like to play in that way.
Do you think the music world is true and respectful? Or think there aremany backstabbers?
Music is a business (big or small) and in my opinion there are a lot of rip-offs and backstabbers.
Do you as band have been riped off?
Yes, we have been riped off for small things but in this years we learned how to recognize this kind of persons.
Do you play black metal because it is populair? Why do you play this kind? Ever tried other styles?
We play symphonic black metal because we like to play this kind of music. I don’t think that black is a popular music. Personally I play also in other band as This Illusion (melodic death), Ensoph (electro avant metal) and sometomes also in other non metal bands.
Why did you release a promo tape and no CD? And why only two songs?
Because playing in a band and make recordings to let the people listen to your music could be much expensive. We hadn’t money. A limited tape format with only two song has been really less expensive than 1000 copies in cd format with 8 songs.
What is the use of limited promo tape? Isn't it necessary to spread as many as possible?
Yes but we hadn’t money to make a big production; we self produce our works and often we have to look at the availability of money. In our web site (www.butrialplace.too.it) there is a sample of a track of the promo. Morover you need money also to make promotion (mail, phone, flyers,..).
Is the soprano Giovanna a permanent member? How does she look against the BM style?
Yes, Giovanna is a permanent member and she appreciate very much every kind of metal. She has a wonderful soprano voice and she study at the conservatoire of Venice.
To what bands do you listen to yourself? Afraid of copying their riffs subconscious?
We listen to many bands of different kind of music and so I think that could be difficult to say that we are original.
Did you get any respons on appearing on the comp albums? What was the best one?
No, till now we didn’t get any response on appearing on compilation that some zine or label release. We appeared on ?Black Tears of Death vol. VI and VII? (Italy), ?Atlantida comp. 2? (Lithuania), ?Shadows Realm 2? (France), and many others but we get only some contact with zines.
Why don't you play with corpsepaint? Who has the best corpsepaint in theBM scene?
We don’t use painting because we think that nowadays is obsolete and we don’t play a kind of music that needs facepainting. I think that Immortal and Marduk have the best corpse paint .
Do you think Burial Place brings something positive to your life? What and why?
Yes, I’ve learned that there are few persons that really appreciate what do you do in your life and that there are a lot of false people.
If you were not a musician what would you have done?
I don’t know, maybe I could have the opportunity to live a normal life.
Are you glad your parents put you on this world? Or would you like to live in another century?
I think that could be very interesting if I was born in the period of Roman Empire.
Do you have interest in other things that happen in daily life? What fascinates you?
As for me, I’m really busy in music; I play with Burial Place and I make promotion for them; I play also in Ensoph (avant goth metal band – www.ensoph.8m.com) and in This illusion (melodic death – www.thisillusion.net) so I have a little bit of my time to let my interest think about web designing (kokhe@libero.it).
Say something schocking about Burial Place?
We have line up problems again and probably we split out soon.
Last rites?
