Love Forsaken in an obscure future

interview with Love Forsaken

LOVE FORSAKEN is an italian death metal band formed in 1998. Currently composed of 7 elements, (BIGVAL-voice; MRVITZ-bass; PYT-drums; PRONACH-electronic drums; SOTCHERD-keys; KABA-guitar; LECYO-guitar),the band’ s proposal is a dynamic non traditional death metal.

The first year of activity leads to the completion of the first demo-cd entitled LIGHTFULL EXPERIENCE. In 2000, instead, sees the light the second one: INHUMACULTURE. CD more fortunate than the first thanks to reviews on newspapers like “Il Gazzettino”, il “Corriere delle Alpi”, “L’ Adige”, some fanzines and Metal Shock; guests on Radio Belluno and Radio Cortina and numerous concerts. Lyrics are mainly inspired to thematic like hate and melancholy, without leaving love aside: fundamental introspective components of human soul. In a few songs the vocal execution is based on the contrast between a typical “death” voice and a melodic female one: antithesis that evidences the two opposites above mentioned. Finally, BITTER UNREAL DIARY, contained in INHUMANCULTURE, has been inserted in the compilation ... INTO THE UNDERGROUND vol. IV by WHIPLASH PROD. of Caserta.

In 2000 A.D. the line-up steadiness leads definitively to the natural evolution of the previous “works”: In the GEM Studios of Vicenza it is realized in a classical “raw” way the 3rd LOVE FORSAKEN’s experimental act: DEAD SUN. The following year Love Forsaken realize a new work and in november 2001 SUDDENLY LOKI FACES is recorded at Majestic Studio by Marino De Angeli in Scorzè (Venezia).

A high professional production including immediate contents, where the classic death cliché got over, in order to let way to an innovative instrumental dynamic. BEYOND, from SLF, has been recently inserted into the compilation CALEIDOS by UNISONO.

interview with Lecyo on 09-01-2003

Please give us a short introduction of yourself?
Ohaa!! Here’s Lecyo of Love Forsaken. I am... bla... bla... and this is my life (in the meanwhile you see the film of my life perfectly as at cinema.)

Give a brief description of your other bandmates. and keep it short because it are 6 persons.
Ok. Pyt on the drums, Pronach on electronic drums, Mrvitz or Mr. Vitz on bass, Sotcherd on keys, Kaba on guitar and me on the other. We all have different musical backgrounds, so the band seems to have different souls.

Is it not difficult to have 7 members? with certain decisions that have to be made? Or are you the leader?
Sure... it is difficult to agree on everything, but it is very important that everyone thinks with its own brain! Love Forsaken could not create otherwise.

Describe the way you write songs? are the songs written with all the members instruments in the back of your mind?
Someone has an idea and he introduces it to the others, then we all think how to improve that idea. We work on the meanings above all.

And what is the use of electronic drums good for? what is the reason for using this instrument?
Experimentation...

What makes a good lasagne? What is the biggest mistake I can make to fail?
I could tell you the biggest failure I did in my own life... But relating to your question the biggest mistake is the destruction of the Love Forsaken project.

About the lasagne... I think the right dose of salt, if we are talking about cooking. If we talk about L F instead the secret ingredient is the right quantity of BEER!

It took one year to record the first demo? Played own material right a way or only doing covers?
In the beginning the line up was very different, I must say. We started with 2 songs of our own and in the mean while we decided to do some covers... until today we have never completed that list of covers.

Describe the bands progression in the demo range? What did you do to become better as an individual and collective?
It was a natural evolution in playing and thinking music. Also technology is a big support: there is a difference between playing with something similar to a piece of wood and a guitar with the adjustments you really need. When you start playing, I think you do not notice this difference and this all is related to the way you work in studio too.

On the other hand you cannot dream to be like that guitar player or this singer every day and by enchantment become him. You must work. Obviously you must be obstinate in front of delusions and now above all for L F.

The progression in the demo range... changing people you play with teaches you how to live with the others and respect. We all must eat bitter in order to taste sweet.

Do you know Meshuggah? They are reinventing metal at the base, but who knows how many delusions and illusions are waiting them? Those guys do not sail in gold. Their proposal does not correspond to take-away food you buy everyday and it may be popular in the future, if marketing allows... However I’m sure they have grown as individuals and collective and achieved the Meshuggah’s goal: their own personal and musical evolution.

Is it difficult to find a stage to carry the whole band? Or don't care how big the stage is?
Yeah is very difficult, but did you ever play LEGO?

Do you give disabled people discount to your gigs?
Always... If I will have the honour to acknowledge you I will introduce you to a big friend of mine.

Do you visit gigs yourself frequently? How do you behave? Headbang, drink beer etc.?
When you will see our gig, you will answer by your own! Ah Ah!

What is the gig you are proud of? And why?
We were playing in Azzano X (PN) within a contest in summer 2002. It was the 2nd edition we participated and we were there to destroy. In the 2001 edition we were 2nd in the final list, while in 2002 edition we were 5th with the same songs. The jury said we needed more melody and a better attitude on stage... The first band, the winner, played melodic rock punk and the 2nd one cabaret rock. But who cares? If you create the biggest party ever seen before with the guys and the crew ?

What makes your style of death metal different from the others?
I think it is the sincere and natural participation... the involvement.

Do you think death metal has borders or are there still items that can be add like, opera vocals, bagpipes etc.?
We use an electronic drum... But beyond this last trend in shuffling electronic with metal, trend that I think driven to commercial - no e.g. - there are no borders. The core consists in the way you intend Death Metal.

The electronic drum helps you to overpass those borders and support Death Metal, without decreasing in discotheque.

How did you manage to participate in the compilations? Bribe the guyz?
Simply: in Italy you pay for your participation in these things. How does the system works in your country?

What do you wanna reach with the band? How do you see the future?
We would like to play every day and everywhere. Unfortunately it is not so easy.

If they kick you out of the band tomorrow, what will you do next?
Obscure is the future for those who are not given to see...

What are your wishes for the year 2003?
Aliens land on the earth, but this time live on television!

Last rites?
Thanx to your support! Please remember to your friends that DEATH METAL IS NOT BORN YET!!
