Prejudice about judging others

Prejudice was founded in June 1993 by 4 total inexperienced members. There was no singer found at that time. They rehearsed a lot and tried to develop their own style. In July 1993 the band was complete and started to write their own songs. The music was a mix of speed and thrash. The lyrics they wrote were about hardship in life, by own experiences. They gave their first performance in December 1993 This was a turning - point because they decided to head for a more technical direction. In October 1994 the bass player decided to leave the band. After a few gigs with Profile, Chemical Breath, Criminal Judge, insanity Reigns Supreme,..., they recorded a 4- track promo tape called 'Violent New Breed' with 5 songs of their own. This tape showed what Prejudice was capable of that moment. March 1996, the first demo is finally recorded at the Beaufort studio under expert knowledge of Han Swagerman. It contains 5 songs and is called 'Jaundiced Eye'.
In July 1997 the members of Prejudice signed a CD-contract with Eastern Star Music Entertainment. The recording of this debut-album took place at the end of July at the Harrow Productions studios under expert knowledge of Harry Wijering. Due to negligence of the record company Prejudice decided to release the CD under direct management. This would happen in co-operation with Teutonic Existence Rec. and D&F Agency. They will took care of the distribution, promotion and performances in Belgium and other countries.
interview with Def on 10-03-2004
Please give us a short introduction of yourself?
Im Def and im one of the guitar players/backing vocals in Prejudice together with Tuni.
So how is it to play in the band? Is it giving you advantages or priveleges?
It’s always fun on and off stage but sometimes also serious stress with all the ripp offs in the musicbuisness like totally fucked up record labels and nose up bands! But that’s just a small percentage of the musicbuisness for the rest is’t just great to play in a band and do some cool shows and tours with cool and welknown bands. Since we have been touring with Metallysee we met lots of interesting people and people that are in the buisness as a booker our promotor and we can c lots of tourpackage live on the guestlist thats a real cool privelege!
Why the bandname? What prejudice do you face?
Thats a long story and it goes back to the early days before the band was even born, we wanted to start a band but 1st we started with the name haha. Why Prejudice, it’s short and u can take it from 2 sides this meaning. Some think that we are prejudice against all things but it isn’t like this we mean with this name: don’t make a judgement about someone our something before knowing that persone of thing personal! And than, give some critic but not before.
Do you think a lot of humor is based on prejudice? Know any joke about Dutch people?
We have lots of humor in the band and between the bandmembers but some people think if we are joking that we are making fights but that’s our way of making fun haha. No not really because i can’t remember all the crazy jokes about Dutch people ;-)
Your soccer team is called the red devils. How serious do we have to take that?
I hate soccer and the BE devels suck bigtime and they don’t interest me at all. But they have to be more devil then red then maybe they will win some matches?
Belgium is now in the news with the trial of Dutroux. Is there any punishment that would fit his deeds?
Fucking cutt off his balls and let him over to the parents of the murdered girls our just linch him! Such people i spitt on they don’t have any rights to live and court threat him like a fucking mastermind & king. Fuck him and the laws that protect him.
Don't be afraid that Belgium will always be associated with Dutroux?
We don’t care every country has something like an asshole like Detroux, like corupt politicians and psycho’s. But for the rest i don’t care about this matter.
I saw you in Eindhoven and didn't see a bassplayer. Do you miss it or just go ahead with the 4?
Beter no bassplayer then a bad bassplayer that can’t follow the beat what is very importand for a bassplayer! At this point we don’t miss a bassplayer but when Gerry played the bass 4 us on the song Unobtrusive Hatebreed we heard for the 1st time a bass in the band because he’s a good and tight bassplayer, actually a bassplayer like Gerry we miss yeah! But we’ll keep on going without a bassplayer, maybe we will find a new dedicated metalhead that is crazy enough to follow our music and thoughts? We’ll see what the future brings?
Learned something from that tour? Made new friends and enemies?
Everytime u play live u learn something, bad our good. No we didn’t make enemies but again cool friend in US now bacause of playing with such great respected bands and musicians. Hope we can do more tours like this because it was the best tour we ever did so far! Thx to all bands by this way.
Is it easy to get free from work? What kind of work do you do?
Yes, we just work interim jobs and if we go on tour we quit our job and after the tour we can go back to the old job our we find a new one! At this point im working as a mechanic.
How were the reactions of your new album? Do you also read the negative ones?
Killer and super great, this was the album we needed to make and release on mankind with our crushing carzy complax deathmetal. Sure we also read the bad reviews but untill now we didn’t had a bad one, but if we will have a bad one we will surlly read it! I like critics, as long as they are honest and fair!
What is your dirive and inspiration to write new songs?
We don’t know actually because we write music with 3 people in the band and that’s maybe way our music is like it sounds? And every song that we write we want to overtake ourselfs with our capability of riffing and keep the bast of us. Every album must be better than the previous one. Untill now we always had te power to do it.
Who do you count as the forfathers of metal? Think Elvis had some influences?
Morbid Angel, Suffocation, Elvis did nothing for the metal so i don’t think so?!
How grateful are you to get this intie on BRUTALISM? Do you gonna buy a shirt now?
We take every intie our review serious so also this one and we thank u for this intie! Maybe we can trade a shirt, isn’t that a better idea? Musicians are NO rich people every penny goes into the music again. Can u count ;-)
Any statement you wanna make and no belgian beer promotion please?
We want to thx all people that supported us in Holland and all the other countries and we are glad we can make music and belong to this deathmetal empire!
Last rites?
Thx for the intie and review on your website! Think about the TS swap will ya ;-) Hope to see some cool support whan we will hitt Holland agaion
Stay brutal CHEERS
