Waco Jesus was formed in 1994 in Central Illinois. Our first demo was recorded shortly after in 95’ and was self-distributed in limited quantities. In 1997, after several line-up changes, founding guitarist and pervert Kevin Menssen joined up with vocalist Shane Bottens, Guitarist Dave Kibler (also with Lividity) and Drummer Nick Null in hopes of making the greatest shit-rock band of all time. After playing a lot of American shows and metalfests, we signed with United Guttural Records in 1999 and recorded our first release, “The Destruction of Commercial Scum”. Shortly after recording the album Dave Kibler left Waco Jesus to focus on Lividity and Chris Sweborg joined the band soon after. Everything was finally in place and going strong, then in July 2002, just two weeks before playing “Milwaukee Metalfest,” our drummer and more importantly our friend past away. Bands and friends from the USA and overseas wrote, called and even came to the funeral. The outpouring of support from the underground community was amazing. Several months later Johnny Baker joined us on the drums and had us back out on the road in no time. Our assault on morality and sluts barely missed a beat. We since have signed with Morbid Record and recorded our second release entitled “Filth.” The release date is set for May 19th 2003. MY NAME IS SHANE, I'M THE SINGER, I'M 33 YEARS OLD. I LIVE IN PEKIN ILLINOIS. I'VE BEEN IN METAL BANDS FOR ABOUT 14 YEARS. IN THREE WORDS I'M TALL DARK AND UGLY.
Why did you wanna be the most rock shit band of all time? Think you succeed?
SHIT-ROCK IS A TERM WE MADE UP TO DESCRIBE OURSELVES. I REALLY DON'T THINK THERE IS ANOTHER BAND THAT WOULD WANT TO BE CALLED A SHIT ROCK BAND AND YES WE WILL SUCCEED.
The band name is a bit controversal. Was it your purpose to shock or wanting media attention?
THE NAME DOESN'T MEAN ANYTHING, IT JUST SOMETHING THAT CAME ABOUT. IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE FBI BULLSHIT IN WACO, TEXAS.

Everyone was shocked with the death of Nick. Could you describe your personal emotions?
I KNEW NICKO THE LONGEST, IT WAS FUCKING ROUGH BRO. I MEAN ROUGH. I DON'T EVER WANT TO HAVE TO GO THROUGH THAT SHIT AGAIN. I STILL THINK ABOUT HIM TODAY.
Did your visions according life changed after this? Looked more towards the future?
YEAH WE CUT BACK ON OUR CRACK SMOKING. (JUST A JOKE TO LIGHTEN THE MOOD)
The UG scene also reacted. Did you expect and changed your opion on the scene?
EVERYONE WHO HAS BEEN IN THE UNDERGROUND SCENCE FOR ANY AMOUNT OF TIME KNOWS HOW CLOSE OF A COMMUNITY IT IS. I WAS NOT SURPRISED AT ALL TO SEE THE OUTPOURING OF SUPPORT AND EMOTION FROM NICKS DEATH.
How is your family status? Having a wife or kids? If not, wanting them?
I LIVE WITH MY GIRLFRIEND OF 5 YEARS AND HAVE TWO DOGS. I'M SURE SHIT WILL ALL FALL INTO PLACE ONE DAY.
Do you think it is ’death metal’ to raise a family, changing diapers, taking them to kindergarten?
ALL THAT SHIT DOESN'T MATTER, HAVING RESPONIBILITIES IS JUST PART OF LIFE IT DOESN'T MAKE A PERSON LESS OF A METALHEAD.

Did your parents support you when starting in the music bizz? Do they still support you after seeing what you do now?
MY PARENT ARE PRETTY OUT OF TOUCH WITH WHAT I DO MUSICALLY. THEY KNOW ABOUT THE BAND AND THAT IS ABOUT IT.
