Braincasket - Split My Fist With Your Cunt

It has been quite some time (almost eight years), but we finally have some new music from Brutal Death Metal outfit Braincasket from the Netherlands and it sounds ferocious! For those who don't know, these guys started making noise in 2005, but have only one EP and a full length that released back in 2017 but since then no real noise. Now it seems they're back, refreshed, and with a new member to bring more chaos. They create a sound that is heavy but has plenty of groove and sounds like a mix of Deicide meets Internal Bleeding so it has the slams but also relentless blastbeats, provided by guitarists Jeroen and Dennis backed by bassist Johan and drummer Mike alongside vocalist Sito and new co vocalist Wytze who provides and excellent complement with one slightly more guttural than the other but discernible all the same. Rooted in more of the 2005 to 2010 sound, it takes polished Death Metal to a new level of heavy without the fuzz and grime of the early 90s.

While 'Split My Fist With Your Cunt' is a short single- and that's all we get for now- it has the bounciness of Jungle Rot with the aggression and sickening touches of a band like Kraanium but with better production and less gurgliness. It has the lyrical expectations of Slam, but the sound of Brutal Death Metal not quite cranked up on speed. Compared to their last effort back in 2017, the sound is more refined with the vocalists trading off with the aggression of Blood Red Throne and also a touch of technicality for the drums versus that hollow mindless echo of beatings. Riffs are catchy and can incite as much headbanging along with moshing. While the vocals are the highlight of the song especially for those squeals at the end, the overall symphony of Death Metal is sure to be enjoyed and a strong preview for what is to come as it doesn't quite blow one away like Brodequin but isn't focused on sheer shock like that of Vulvectomy. Somewhere in the middle is a comforting place to be, and Death Metal fans in general should be very comfortable while they appreciate the harrowing blasphemy that will be fun to mosh to along with whatever other tracks come this way from Braincasket. A brutal starting comeback indeed.
