Deadspeak - No Respect.. Neither For Living Nor For The Dead

Hot on the heels of their 2023 release, Ireland’s/ Poland’s Deadspeak tease yet some more new music with their EP, “No Respect… Neither For Living Nor For The Dead.” Those that know of this (now duo) that despite some lineup changes, still are going strong with that Death Metal style that has a Thrash tinge to it and sounds a bit like Death meets Malevolent Creation. Still speared by Krakus (Rafał Krakowiak) on the guitars and Latex (Tomasz Prokop) on vocals with help from session drummer James Stewart and keyboardist Ataman Tolovy, the result is only two tracks but a vast difference compared to a year ago.

‘No Respect…’ will stand out specifically from the bass really being amped up, whereas the past record was more drum and guitar focused with the vocals and bass pushed back a bit. Here the Thrash based attack comes right out the door and everything just feels faster, but more balanced at the same time. While Deadspeak have been a bit more ‘moody’ in their instrumental delivery on the guitar front with some Mercyful Fate influence, this track just feels like one’s more straightforward Death Metal attack with that spooky keyboard addition to try and keep the horror feel that they included on the previous effort. ‘Soul-o-suction’ has some more bass driven passages and more layered vocals similar to how recent Vital Remains delivers their sound as opposed the one sided roar, but the pace is a bit more mid and groove oriented, falling more into Death territory than a place like Slayer. It still hits hard though. Overall it is hard to really judge 2 tracks but it sounds like Deadspeak are aiming to get more technical and refined in their sound, so hopefully they’ll still deliver some more heavy thrashing Death Metal that is more fleshed out in the future.
