Necroticgorebeast - Repugnant
Necroticgorebeast’s “Repugnant” is a further journey into their collective minds of madness and is sure to appeal to even the most sophisticated fans of the brutal death metal genre. You will find that, in the music, there are various elements and vibes of old school and traditional death metal, combined with a more than capable technical application which adds a certain depth to this aural monstrosity. Michael Chamberland’s prowess on the guitar goes from one side of the spectrum to the other. His work on this album shows that he is more than capable of handling whatever is put in front of him. Everything is tuned just right and the riffs on this release absolutely crush everything in sight. Consider his abilities on par with those you would hear in old Death, Insidious Disease, Lifeless, Internal Bleeding, and Grave. On the drums is JP Bouchard, and the passions and skills demonstrated here leave you with no doubt how serious this art is taken. His skills could be compared across the board however, the work here stands on its own merit. While there may be a standard blueprint for drumming in brutal death metal, JP builds upon that a strong foundation and continues beating the hell out of that kit and your ear drums for the duration of the album. With that being said, don’t be surprised if you find yourself hitting the replay button several times. If I had to compare him to another drummer, the one that comes to mind would be Steve Asheim from Deicide.
Alexander Brochus’ bass abilities match the passion and integrity of his bandmates without question. When he hits those chords, making everything bottom heavy, it gives you the feeling of being pulled down into the midst of all the chaos where all the elements of the music can infiltrate your auditory sensors at the same time. It’s a glorious feeling to say the least. Especially with a sound so malevolent and chaotic. Topping things off here is John Mayer on vocals. There's nothing out of the ordinary here, but it’s just so damn brutal! When you have music that is as crushing as this, you don’t need to go out of your way in the vocal department. The music and vocals here, make a sickening combination so infectious that once you hit the play button, there’s no escaping the crushing madness your mind will endure. If you’re a fan of brutal death metal, you will definitely want this release in your collection. This is not just thrown together it is thought out and constructed in a way to keep things interesting and full of madness. If youre a fan of any of the bands mentioned here, I highly recommend this album. Contact the band or Comatose Music for information on this release. I would also recommend Necroticgorebeast’s previous releases as well. These guys don’t disappoint!
