Algebra - Procreation

In the vein of Slayer, Anthrax, and Sepultura comes Algebra's EP entitled "Procreation". This technical, groovy band brings a heavy helping of aggression to the heavy metal table. The raw vocal shouting that dominates this EP is reminiscent of Suicidal Tendencies. The use of the background vocal shouts blends well and is not overused. However, more variety to the vocals would serve this band well. The shouts continue from song to song and after a while the vocals all start sounding the same and the CD becomes boring to listen to.

Musically, the band works well together. The riffs are played with speed and precision. While, the screaming guitar solos are nicely placed and give this EP a lot of intensity. The drums and bass are dense and heavy. The tempo changes are smooth and seamless.

Overall this is a good EP. However, why they chose to name themselves Algebra is a mystery to me. I suppose merely mentioning the word Algebra to some people would scare them into a panic more so than if you mentioned, say the words...Cannibal Corpse, Carcass, or Napalm Death.

But, honestly, the name Algebra just isn't a good fit for a metal band. This is too bad, because their music is a great fit with the metal scene.
