Alter Self - Promo 2012

Alter Self's second demo effort, 'Promo 2012,' is quite brief, but continues their solid approach towards a mix of Thrash and Death Metal. Still just three tracks, each one brings a little something different to the table for fans to enjoy. "My Sober Reflection" is one of the faster tracks infused with the expected catchy repetitive section of riffs right before things go back to the straightforward chugging and growls. "Fovea" impresses a little more on the guitar solo with the backing melodies and tries to stray away from the usual chugging madness by also incorporating some more bass work- a rare thing in Thrash since everything is going at full speed and power. It also helps the group sound a bit more technical and complex, so more than just die hard Death Thrash fans should pay attention to them. The closing "Separation From God" throws in the most melody so fans can really get the idea that Alter Self are more than just the average 'chug n' solo' kind of band. Overall this demo is a bit hard to make a full judgment call on what Alter Self can do, but it is a great preview to what they will unleash on a full length in the near future.
