Amken - Adrenaline Shot
Amken are an energetic new thrash metal band from Greece and their debut EP is a short 20 minutes full force thrash. They are in the vein of modern thrash of say Municipal Waste or Lost Society. So their full of energy, hooks and tongue in cheeks lyric's ('Zombie Pets'!) not so much darkness and crushing heaviness.
The musicianship is awesome. Everyone is on the ball, the shredding leads on the opening track alone ('Adrenaline Shot') is enough to raise eyebrows. Vocalist Vanias A. has a raspy, screechy voice it works well with the songs. I think he will divide opinion actually but then again most thrash vocalist's do! 'Nightmare' is a nice mid-paced groover with a bit of a dark edge. It highlight's the band is more then a one trick pony and 'God's Asleep' is the highlight with it's main riff, the song builds itself up and their's beautiful lead work throughout.
All in all it's not earth shattering but it shows a new band making their first statement. It's definitely worth checking out. Everything is where it needs to be and all the pieces are in place all that's left is to see where it leads and what the band do next but the potential is there. Time will tell with these guys to be stacked under "one's to watch".
