Anger Needs Direction - 2011 promo

Anger Needs Direction have certainly found their outlet with their brief 2011 promo. 4 tracks of crunching progressive deathcore will leave listeners pretty impressed for the most part. Consider it a combination of Cynic and Job For A Cowboy. Some tracks like "Gluttony and Greed" just blast away with the gutteral vocals and chugging guitars. However, Anger isn't all about repetition as they add a lot of technical stuff with their pacing and also solos. It is very brutal, but not monotonous and simple as some deathcore bands just focus on the same sequence of chugs while also including a mix of low and high vocals. For the most part, Anger sticks to low. But, there are also some clean vocals used as well- this is where the Cynic infuence comes in. A track like "Instinctual Aggression" features slow, almost progressive parts with faded vocals that add a dreamlike quality to the music and steps out of the generic side of the deathcore metal genre. Of course, eventually everything slides back into the heavy, but it is a great nudge to show the diversity of Anger's path. Ultimately, this a great start of an EP and most death metal fans who like their music a little experimental and progressive will certainly enjoy this a lot.
