Anima Damnata – Nefarious Seed Grows To Bring Forth Supremacy Of The Beast
It’s a bit of an odd task describing Anima Damnata because they have many familiar ingredients to their sound but it make a different finished product to what you would expect. Blackend death metal is a popular term at the moment which is death metal with a black metal finish while Anima Damnata are more black metal with a death metal finish, yeah I know!
They take the rash harshness of Blasphemy and the brutality of Deicide and mix in the darkness and dirty riffs of Incantation and they have a War Metal image but they don’t sound how you would think. They don’t sound like the other 100 bands that you would describe how I just have. They are unique, there is something different going on and in all fairness what I am saying won’t really snap without repeated listens.
The real beauty of this album is what goes on under the surface. It’s all chaos and brutality upfront but under that after you spend a bit of time with the album. There’s subtle melodies and the riffs are really sophisticated. Take for example the track 'Your Life Is Cursed' its black metal sounded but the riffs wouldn’t have sounded out of place on an old Dark Angel album.
It’s hard really to pick out stand out tracks because the album really works as a whole. It’s just a hailstorm of thundering riffs and punishment but it really does reveal a dark atmosphere with repeated listens. The soundtrack to a journey of the underworld and the swirling chaos that awaits.
It has a little bit of everything going. Every sub-genre and every classic band in the extreme world you will get a hint and taste of at some point. A brilliantly put together piece of work.
