Aries Vehemens – Decade Of Necrosodomy
Hailing from Poland Aries Vehemens is a five piece death metal outfit. Pretty much everything you need to know is in the title of the album. What I like about "Decade Of Necrosodomy" is that it has an old school feel but it doesn’t feel like a rehash, the songs although up to scratch production wise bring to mind the demo’s from death metal’s formative years. Again it sounds relevant and fresh but you get the impression the band members collectively own 5 albums and none of them were released after 1991.
It’s death metal that’s dirty and raw in the vein of Death "Scream Bloody Gore" era or Autopsy, with just a dollop of old school black metal for good measure. Think Autopsy playing Venom covers. All the songs are relatively short with only one going over the 5 minute mark. You get short and to the point shredders like 'Armageddon' and slow burners like 'Heavy Cross (Dechristianization)'. 'Die Crushed' is full of hooks and 'Father Master King' shows the band isn’t scared of adding a little melody when needed and it’s got to be said these guys can shred! They don’t overdo it but when they band slip into fifth gear the band are on fire. Just listen to 'Dark Stigmat'.
While it’s far from a game changer Aries Vehemens do what they love and simply put their own stamp on things. "Decade Of Necrosodomy" is a good, dirty, chrushing, despicable fun.
