Astrophobos - Arcane Secrets
Astrophobos, a black metal band hailing from Sweden, has released their self-financed debut
album entitled "Arcane Secrets". This three song teaser EP is a vile showcase of some
damn good black metal.
Appearing out of nowhere, these newcomers have made one hell of an impression on the metal scene. The traditional snarling black metal vocals are top notch. They engulf the listener within an evil dark atmosphere. The intense distorted riffing of the guitars coupled with the fantastic blast beat drum work provide the perfect accompaniment to the vocals. Also, for a self-financed EP, the recording quality is excellent. This is a very impressive first release.
While all three songs on this EP are fantastic, the best performance comes from the title
track "Arcane Secrets". The smooth tempo changes going from lightning fast tremolo picking to much slower melodic riffs are perfect. These tempo changes add a lot to the dark ambiance of this song.
It is amazing what this trio has put out considering how new they are to the scene. If they
continue to make this kind of powerful music they will go far in the underworld of black metal. The only problem with this release? A three song EP this good leaves the listener craving more.
