Avichi - The Divine Tragedy

Formed by ex Nachtmystium guitarist Aamonael and drummer Xaphan, Avichi released their debut full-length on NMB in 2006. The Divine Tragedy is classifiably raw, grim, relentless black metal in the Darkthrone style. Certain characteristics make it more unique like an epic approach to some songs, occasional guitar progressions hearkening to At The Heart Of Winter-era Immortal and an ambient intro performed with gongs. This last has a minimalist feel establishing the songs to follow with a mood akin to such horror classics as Season Of The Witch (this atmosphere emerges again in the final track). The deeper lead vocals contribute to the album's cold malevolence with a sense of something threatening lurking behind you, breathing down your neck. If you liked Darkthrone's Transilvanian Hunger and Panzerfaust, you'll like this.

1. Entrance to God
2. Purification within the Eighth Sphere
3. Messianic Deliverance
4. Phallic Insinuation
5. Prayer for Release
6. Taedium Vitae
7. Aeonic Disintegration
8. Separation from the Life Principle
