Azahel's Fortress - The Chaos Kingdom
Black metal from Austria anyone? You would be forgiven for thinking (the mighty) Satyricon as album opener - Slave of the Throne spews forth from your speakers. Hiwever, this is not Satyricon, this is Azahel's Fortress and after a handful of Demos and EPs and their debut Secrets of the Forest, this is the sophomore release from the band.
Time signatures and chants a plenty here - not one particular stlye is favoured over another here. On occasion the rifs will drone and on occasion they will speed it up. This is a well executed album but does not deliver the killer blow. Maybe the diversity is the downfall - it is a little disjointed. Diversity is a funny thing, you need to focus to pull it off convincingly, otherwise, it can sound all over the place.
This is by no means a bad record, it s a solid and well played release that will certainly find it's audience and will no doubt garner a cvlt following.
