Belphegor/Exodus/Kreator - LIVE
date: Saturday April 18 2009
venue: The Rock, Maplewood, Minnesota, USA
Someone had the right idea for a perfect extreme metal tour. When Kreator and Exodus are paired up for a tour, you know that the show will be amazing. Toss in new thrashers Warbringer and the sadistic Belphegor and you have the Hordes of Chaos tour, which is currently destroying North America.
Austira’s Belphegor brought their sadomasochist metal and started off the night right. Dark and evil, the four piece played some of their heaviest material. Really, they were the only non-thrash element on the tour, so crowd reaction was not as intense as the other bands. Despite that, the band played very well ending with their title track from their latest record, Bondage Goat Zombie.
Belphegors’s set list was as follows:
Bleeding Salvation
Seyn Todt in Scwartz
Belphegor – Hell’s Ambassador
Stigma Diabolicum
Lucifer Incestus
Justine: Soaked in Blood
Bondage Goat Zombie
Following the diabolic set from Belphegor was veteran thrashers Exodus. When they hit the stage, the crowd exploded. Crowd surfing, head banging and a large pit was the norm for the entire set. These guys play with such intensity no matter where they are or whom they play with. The front man, Rob Dukes, can never be satisfied with the crowd response so between songs, he continually encouraged the crowd to match the bands intensity with a larger pit, stage diving and all out war in the venue. A great set was played with a good mix of old classics and new favorites, and Exodus certainly set the stage for the nights headliners, Kreator.
Exodus’s set list was as follows:
Bonded by Blood
Iconoclasm
A Lesson in Violence
Children of a Worthless God
Piranha
Deathamphetamine
Blacklist
War is my Sheppard
Strike of the Beast
Headlining the tour was Kreator, supporting their newest record, Hordes of Chaos. The German thrash machine knows only one thing, and that is to destroy the crowds with metal played heavy and fast. Playing a total of 18 songs, they had the crowd whipped up and banging heads. They played a good mix of old and newer songs, and had a set that flowed very well. The veteran thrashers not only matched, but exceeded the intensity of the opening bands, and even though it was a lot to take, the crowd didn’t slow down either. It isn’t often that a great tour line up is put together, and with all killer and no filler, this tour dominates. Make sure to check out the Hordes of Chaos tour before its too late!
Kreator’s set list was as follows:
Hordes of Chaos
Warcurse
Extreme Aggression
Phobia
Voices of the Dead
Enemy of God
Destroy What Destroys You
Pleasure to Kill
People of the Lie
Coma of Souls
The Patriarch
Violent Revolution
Terrible Certainty
Betrayer
Amok Run
Riot of Violence
Flag of Hate
Tormentor
