Better Undead Than Alive- Volume 2
After the successful Better Undead Than Alive compilation, Aural music (under the name Code666) decided to release a second double disc set. It is very different compared to the first considering the line up. The first grouping was numerous different death and black metal bands, some more known than others. With Volume 2, the music is much more eclectic and varied. It is almost more progressive, ambient metal than anything else. There's some black and death metal appearances by bands like The Oath and Negura Bunget, but most of the tracks are dominated by solo guitarist, Davide Tiso, also known for his work in the metal band, Ephel Duath. Compared to his work in the band, many of his tracks are short, progressive, sludgecore instrumentals that are more experimental than extreme. The other bands listed perform progressive, sludgecore metal as well; some like Axis Of Perdition lean towards more depressive metal. Fans should mostly expect a lot of guitar driven music mixed with keyboard moments, using little in the way of vocals, and if there are vocals, distorted singing or screaming.
Overall it seems that Aural Music wanted to go for a more varied taste in metal with their selections. Considering Davide Tiso's massive part there's no doubt that he had some influence in the choice of tracks and bands. What originally was a black and death metal mix- and more fitting on the title of the compilation- now has become a more psychadellic grouping. It's still extreme and entertaining, and thankfully more varied, so fans of the first compilation can rejoice in that sense.
