Bilocate - Summoning Of The Bygones

My first time hearing Bilocate’s, “Summoning Of The Bygones,” I was left speechless. This band’s sound was out of this world and I have not heard anything like this before. Bilocate is a gothic/doom/death metal from Jordan and are a prominent band within the middle eastern metal music scene. They seem to take on a grand array of different musical styles that are turned into their own unique distinctive sound. Referenced as being the founders of Dark Oriental music this band creates dark overpowering atmospheres within their songs. “The Summoning Of The Bygones” is Bilocate’s third album and coming off the success of their last highly praised album “Sudden Death Syndrome.” I believe people will be talking about this new album too once they hear it.

The first track opens with a middle eastern style guitar lick that builds into a fast paced riff which eventually levels out perfectly with the vocals. The vocal style is extremely diverse and the singers range is amazing. His vocals sound like melodic death with some gothic doom elements. The song is a great example of high quality production from the drums to guitars. I enjoy the doom atmosphere which also has certain elements of progressive technical music that pays great consideration to tempo changes. The guitar playing is virtuosic and the tone especially during the solos is magnificent. On the second track, “Beyond Inner Sleep” the music is a mix of technical death metal and slow gothic music. The singer changes from growling to melodic vocals and I find it creates unique instrumental arrangements that follow the mood of the lyrics. The third track, “A Deadly Path” opens with an intense blazing guitar riff followed up by the powerful vocals that shake the musical boundaries held within my mind. This song is more guitar driven and the lead guitar playing is outstanding. Again the band slows down and uses a piano keyboard to create a gloomy atmosphere which of course breaks right back into the intense technical array of pure musical insanity. Bilocate does an awesome cover of Paradise Lost’s “Dead Emotion” and fits in well with their own dark ambient sound. I love the guitar leads on “Dead Emotion” and the sound is wicked with a great harmonic sound carrying over the other instruments. Another great track is the song, “Hypia” which features vocalist Dan Swano who has a soothing melodic voice that works well with Bilocate’s dark doom filled composition.

The song “A Desire To Leave” is broken up into three parts: Part one being Obscurity, Part Two being Surrounding Hell, and Part three being Of Leaving. Each track ties in perfectly and the songs are well produced to make an amazing three part epic. The first part Obscurity is a long piece with a thunderous drumming and a dynamic guitar playing that changes sound with a wide range of effects. The keyboard emphasis in certain parts allows for brilliant song writing and the lyrics stand out in the doom filled piano effect sounding atmosphere. The whole song “A Desire To Leave” is outstanding and shows this bands impressive musical qualities.

To sum this album up I have to say the use of tempo changes to create heavy dark atmospheres is something that I have not heard from a majority of recent metal bands. Bilocate is a refreshing progressive doom sound and creates long songs that have more variety than most bands have on an entire album. Right now this is one of my favorite releases of 2012 and I believe Bilocate is going to make a huge impact on the heavy metal world if fans get the word out. Quick! Get this band out of Jordan and bring them to America for a tour so I can see this metal musical genius live.
