Bodyfarm - The Coming Scourge
Now this here is a new band. Formed in 2009 and since then they have released an EP and two full lengths and I must admit that this Dutch quartet was one of the biggest surprises for 2013! Death metal is their way of expressing their demons, and I must confess that whatever came out of my speakers, was nothing I would have expected!
The old Swedish sound of death metal found its new successor in the Netherlands! Their name is Bodyfarm and this second full length of theirs packs a punch, for anyone who thinks that this type of death metal can no longer be performed! Entombed, Grave and bands like these are what will strike you when you push the play button on this one! 37 minutes of relentless old school beating! This is almost rock n roll. Tight riffs, that along with the bass guitar form a nice and solid wall, for the drums to give a relentless smack down to the poor audience. Bodyfarm is one of the bands that just wont let you stand still! And having already listened to their previous releases, I can surely say that their new album is the top moment in their career so far! Without wanting to underestimate their previous ones, which by the way are on the exact same sound waves, this new one seems capable of destroying a stage! Totally live music!
The first song enters, and their intentions automatically take effect on us! Raw sounding death metal, groovy and uptempo, giving your back the first chills, and as the songs proceed, the chills can turn into a serious neck ache from the unstoppable headbanging! Somewhere in the middle theres an acoustic interleave that couldn't feel more right in all this mess, wandering how can that be? Well it can. After this short break the next song enters with a raging blastbeat and the massacre continues! The last song is the largest of the album, and is the one that is slightly different from the rest, not cos theres less fury in it, but because I think I listened to some black metal-ish riffs amongst the Swedish death metal barrier they have set! No problem damn it. It appears that anything that these guys do, works in favor of them, and this means only one thing: these guys can play! Their lead themes are exceptional, and the growler does more than he should. Great vocal patterns and a perfect aspect on death metal vocals. The production is dirty as it should be! No clear crisp lines here. It is only clear as long as it takes for someone to listen to all the instruments. That is the perfect production for this type of music and they are 100% on to it! So ready to feel mud in your teeth? Go for it lads!
