Burial Invocation - Rituals Of The Grotesque

I love this label, fellow co-releases include Undead Creep and Beyond Hell, so when I got Burial Invocation to review, I kind of knew what to expect. Turkey’s filth hounds Burial Invocation formed in 2008 and these 4 tracks represent the fruits of their early filth harbouring. This is basic rotten death metal, old school style and to me the best form out there in the big bad world. An element of punk, groove and Swedish/Florida/early UK death combined. Macabre riffs and torrid dirty expulsions of brilliance greet the listener on each and every track. Although it comes in at just over 18 minutes, it does seem longer for some reason, but then you do want more and a few listens in a row is not an uncommon want with this release. Typical artwork for such a release is both wanted and expected, there is a want for more. Versions are available on CD and the classic analogue tape, for those of you still possessing such equipment.

All in all, if you like the classic death metal style, this is a release for you. Don’t get me wrong, it does not pulverize you as much as some current Swedish bruisers, but what it does do is have you feeling dirty but whole heartedly satisfied.
