Castigator - The Recommencement

This is melodic death/thrash from Germany, more so in the heavier thrash vein on the majority of tunes. If you have spotted the track list already, no, that’s not an Anthrax cover tune! From the opening couple of songs, the pace and energy is rather high, not out of the ordinary but commendable. The riffing is more thrash as mentioned earlier, the vocal screams fall more into extremer forms of metal out there. The riffs on ‘Opus Magnum’ are quite cool, very melodic death metal, fitting with the overall pace of the release this keeps you entertained. With most band sin this field, you have to be good at what you do to get noticed, Castigator tick all of these boxes and provide arrangements that do more than go with the flow of sub-genre blueprints.

For a debut EP, is a decent one, a band worthy of checking out.
