Cerebral Rot - Odious Descent Into Decay
Who didn't grab "Cessation Of Life" when that dropped? I'm pretty sure I bought the 7" before I even had a record player (yes, I bought a bunch of wax so I'd have a reason to buy a record player). Hailing from Seattle, this quartet melted our brains with their aforementioned demo and heads couldn't wait for the follow up full length. "Odious Descent Into Decay" DID NOT DISAPPOINT!
The opener, and title track, 'Odious Descent Into Decay', assures the listener of a filth packed ride of gnarly/pleasing tunes. I mean, shit, it doesn't get much heavier and nastier than this. Strings tuned low, cavernous drums along with vomited vocals, this delivers a stomach churning release that is straight from the gutter and beauty at the same time
'Swamped In Festering Excrementia' follows and is every bit as heavy as the last. Beginning with a pounding riff and slow double bass, you begin your clawing out of the magical quicksand, only to find more chunky riffs, blast beats, chilling guitar accents, a haunting solo and more.
'Reeking Septic Mass' is my major banger of the album. You can't help but get your head moving to this one. That goes for every track, but the groove riffs in this tune are sooooooo meaty. The ghastly solos add another level.
'Foul Stench Of Ruination' is a fitting ender to this LP, released by 20 Buck Spin. Every bit as heavy and pounding as this release entered. These dudes don't fucking let up. Beefy riffs layered with the chilling guitar work paired with some of the deepest bass and hellish drums. They lay their listener to waste, all the while wearing a smile.
If you're a fan of the heaviest of the heavy, DO NOT let this pass you by. These dudes are touring the US with Fetid. If you are near, or far, make it to the show. You'll thank yourself.
