Cinis - Subterranean Antiquity
From the depths of Poland come Cinis with their 2nd full length to remind us the good old brew! Cinis is a band from Bialystok, and "Subterranean Antiquity" is their new release for 2014. Honoring a great death metal scene their country gave birth to, and bringing a lot of Vader in mind (mostly their early days), they come to place their brick in the wall of death metal their country possesses.
Native sounds for an intro and a little later the party begins. Tight death metal riffs, swirling and sharp, used as tool for the drums and bass to build upon. And a great raw material is guarantee for an awesome final result. The bass guitar is exquisite. Sometimes it emphasizes the guitar riffs (mostly in the mid tempo parts, and others improvising in a neutral base attached to the riff making the whole music sound even bigger. The drums are simply relentless. Well on second thought, I don't know if relentless is the exact word I should use, because it looks like what we're dealing with, is a drummer that knows 'when and what'. It is a key-feature in a band to have a drummer that plays as a musician and not as a juggler! Here in Cinis the drummer is a musician [reminds a lot of Doc (R.I.P)]. The tracks are relentless themselves, so what is needed is a relentless drum performance, which is of course given by the man with the sticks, but we can see that in the more groovy interleaves, he does not forget to use his groovy playing to let the tracks breathe! An excellent discipline of the instrument, possessing many death metal beats and knowing when to unleash and what!
This entire second attack from Cinis is completed by the proper beast behind the mic. Mostly growling but here and there using shrieks and growls together, all under an excellent flow, creating a proper chaos unmatched. The production is the exact production needed for this type of death metal those beasts are playing! Not too shiny and not too muddy! Somewhere in the middle so all the aspects of their ferocity is heard loud and clear! The mix is awesome. It is great that when the music gets muddy enough, the production is set this way so you can hear everything through the mess. So in 11 tracks and almost 43 minutes, Poland proves itself worthy of the term 'death metal breeder' as this crazed quintet from Bialystok, has done it once again in this second effort of theirs succeeding proudly their first full length. An ultimate must for all the death metal ears out there. Check'em out!
