Coffins - Mortuary In Darkness

Coffins is a band from Tokyo Japan that is playing around in the metal scene since 1996. The band started playing doom rock orientated but stoped it activities in 2000. But in 2003 after playing in other bands two original members reunited and the band was born again. Their debut disc was recorded and released in 2005 and contains 7 heavy doom and death metal sounding tracks. The band is influenced by Winter, Divine Eve or Hellhammer or but also from Grave or Autopsy. Listen to the title track and think about "Triump Of Death"... So the style is a mixture of the heavy sludge doom with old school death metal intensity. The album starts with "Black End" and it is an eerie atmospheric step into their dark world. After this you get 6 tracks that are heavy pounding with deep growling vocals and slow sawing riffs. Maybe not original but it is simple, destructive and catchy. The artwork is done by Chris Moyen and showing a sinister imagination of a mortuary in hell. Be warned!
