Concrete - Dawn Of Revival
I have a question for you: do you miss the sheer brutality and the raw sound of the first three Cannibal Corpse albums? If the answer is yes, then you definitely should check out Concrete from Shumen, Bulgaria. Among all the other band with the same name, this particular Concrete plays the heaviest music. Zhivko Stoyanov (bass), Kalin Kolev (vocals and lead guitars), Ivan Ivanov (rhythm guitars) and Ivo Ivanov (drums) don't hide their passion for oldschool death metal, the way it was played in Florida in the beginning of the 90's. "Dawn Of Revival" is their debut full-length album (they have one EP "Annihilation Of Humans" released in 2012) and it is released via the Canadian label Mullgore Production.
In forty minutes, your ears will be tormented by twelve blasting tracks of brutal oldschool death metal heavily influenced by the first Cannibal Corpse records. The opening track 'Infectious Cannibalism' bursts out with shredding guitars riffs, throbbing bass lines and grinding drumming. Kalin's vocals are deep grunts with obvious resemblance to the growls of Chris Barnes in his better days. "Dawn Of Revival" offers plenty of fast and heavy tunes like 'Incite The Homicidal', 'Devour My Flesh' or 'Dripping With Cyanide'. The guys in Concrete know how to play on their instruments and their technical skills are demonstrated on 'Beyond The Corporeal Domains'. But if you are looking for some over-the-top instrumental wankery, typical for many of the contemporary tech-death bands, you will not find it here. Concrete keep it oldschool and straightforward. This is just death metal that will make you bang your head with excitement. Just take a listen at 'Annihilation Of Humans' and feel the pure death metal power. In terms of production "Dawn Of Revival" is on a good level, the sound is raw but every single instrument can be heard clearly. As for the lyrics, not surprisingly they deal mainly with the walking dead just like the cover artwork revealing a bunch of zombies on the quest for human flesh (or whatever they are searching for these days).
So if you like your death metal simple and oldschool then Concrete is a band to look out for. "Dawn Of Revival" will not surprise you with anything but this is death metal played by fans for fans of the genre. You can hear some of their music online and in case you like what you hear - support this young and promising band!
