Curse Of The Forgotten - Sacrifice
If one were to combine the furies of Lamb Of God with the groove of The Defaced, then that's exactly what makes Curse Of The Forgotten sound so good. Hailing from the Netherlands, they've recently released their own demo titled Sacrifice. It is short- only 5 tracks- but very exciting to hear. The album opens with the chock-full groove number, "Power Addiction." Fans will instantly recognize the melodic death metal influence from the rhythms, but the drumming it is bit more intense. The music chugs and pulls along over the vocals which sound surprisingly clear and just as brutal. The guitar melodies are more catchy than mind blowing as the goal of the band is to try to deliver more groove into the music than anything else. "One Way" has some rhythmic drumming before jumping into a chugging rhythm that sounds like machine gun fire. While it may seem kind of bland, it gives more a chance for the guitar solos to be heard. "The Only Thing" is probably the most intense track on the album, specifically in the way of the drumming, while the guitars and bass kind of hang back and perform their melodic rhythms of death. At some point the track slows down for a bit and opts for a bit more melody, and fortunately the vocals, as much as they rage, don't ruin the quality.
"Conviction Of Fate" sounds more like something from Soilwork or Disarmonia Mundi with the way that everything is layered together; all that is missing are clean chorus lines. Again, the music is intense, but also extremely rhythmic, with the drums taking a back seat on the rate of beatings, but at the same time also gaining a lot more melody standard. "Mirror Of Truth" is more a death n' roll kind of track considering the vocals really give it their all, but at the same time there's a lot of melody involved as well that sounds like it is influenced by Parkway Drive or And Hell Followed Through... The solos are pretty cool to hear amongst the chaos, but they are heard sparingly.
For a demo, Sacrifice is produced extremely well. Curse Of The Forgotten have a bright future ahead of them and could very well find a home with a label like Nuclear Blast considering their sound is so likeable to many of the artists within the group. The music is intense yet melodic and the vocals something fresh aside from all the usual high pitched snarls or direct screaming that is usually heard on melodic death metal these days. Definitely worth looking into.
