Dawn Of Chaos - Promo 2010

I've been a fan of Dawn Of Chaos for quite some time and have spoken with vocalist, Paul Hartburn for quite some time also so ive always been fairly up to date with the goings on with this lot. Last i heard
they had undergone alot of lineup changes and i was sent this free promo pack from Paul there the other day so of course, who is gonna turn down some free music?! This here little ensemble is a taste of things to come from D.O.C. debut album and a little taste of what the lads sound like these days live. I guess in aid to coax some label interest which i know thats what they want to see and hear. Upon first listen the difference in production is night and day in comparsion to the "Northern Discomfort" spilt cd they did with Neuroma (who slay also, check em out!!). The boys went to Davy Culbert of Visceral Diety fame way up north in Glasgow,Scotland and it has to be said the results are magnificent!

First of the 2 studio tracks "Force - Fed Embryonic Slurry" is a heavy stompin` blastin` salvo of a track. Which to be fair does not sound like any thing they have done before. Its also quite hard to pin-point
what it sounds like which is a good thing. One thing for sure is that it sure has alot of detuned groove going on and an ample amount of technicality to satisfy those who crave the technical side of things. "Need To Feed" certainly has abit more of direct approach which to these ears reminds me a little of Origin in places. Its worth saying at this point and time that the drumming on these studio tracks,is marvellous and very creative throughout. The guitar sound i think could have been a little bit beefer however it does sit well
in the overall mix. If anything i would have raised the bass to fill out the bottom end of the mix abit more for you can hear how quiet the bass is when it plays by itself on this song. That saying the songs are fuckin` heavy and a surefire step up from recent offerings.

These tracks aside, i have always thought DOC have always sounded better live and here the lads have captured that real powerhouse essence for the live tracks sound awesome. These were recorded in London at the Purple Turtle whilst on tour with Insision and have been mixed/mastered by Brooke Johnson of "The Axis Of Perdition".
I have to say i prefer these tracks maybe slightly more than the recorded songs because they really capture DOC at their heaviest and most brutal. Hell maybe they should perhaps do a live album!? For i have heard worse sounding "pro" live albums. The 2 live tracks on the promo are "Muffocated" and "Blind Torture Kill" which i do really hope make it to their debut album cause they slay. The material on this promo is their strongest to date and i can see no reason this would not attract label attention as the songs are just a little bit different from the norm and i can hear that they are really trying to push themselves on the creativity front and it really shows. So labels the ball is your court give this a listen as its free at their myspace.......www.myspace.com/dawnofchaosmetal sounds top lads well done!
