Deeds Of Flesh - Portals To Canaan

What can anyone write for a band that amongst others taught him, the meaning of death metal? Moments like these are the ones where someone must show character, and try to push himself to be as objective as he ever was. I really wanted to write something like: "This is the new Deeds Of Flesh album. Go fuckin buy it. End of the story". But no this wouldn't make a proper review, so here I am trying to explain why "Portals To Canaan" is a MUST buy for every death metal fan!

Since their very first full length, "Trading Pieces", and 1996, this super band from the USA has released other 6 full length albums, and now this one here, making clear to everyone that they do not intend to lower their standards under no circumstances. Each time a new Deeds  album was on the table, everyone knew that what he had to expect from it was brutality in maximum degree, along with the technicality, they all can support really well, mixed in such harmony, that you could almost dance to it! This new full length of them carries on their legacy, and lifts the axe from where they left it last time, back in 2008 with "Of What's To Come". Brutal riffs, full of technical moments, followed by a super fat bass guitar in every point, tied together by a relentless drummer that can actually surf on the duality of technicality versus brutality! Don't get fooled by gay technical progressive shit that floats in the scene claiming the term death metal. If you want to hear technical brutal death metal, you're definitely giving a shot on these gentlemen here! Their music is the definition of evolution. Just an observation on their discography can prove that their goal, is set higher and higher in every album. And guess what, they are successful in every attempt! So when we're talking about "Portals To Canaan" we're talking about 42 minutes of aggressiveness unmatched, about a horror sci-fi aura, that haunts you undoublty, either with their samples, but mostly with their riffs. We're talking about songs, that could possibly be the epitome, of the mixture between brutal and technical. A great amalgam that very few bands managed to succeed.

And if we want to be a bit more strict with this review… ok "Trading Pieces", "Inbreeding The Anthropophag" and "Mark Of The Legion" were released back in the day, and I am sure no one wants a part 2! No one needs a part 2 actually cos these guys seem to have a never ending resource n inspiration! You will be amazed by how original this new 8th full length from those beasts sounds like, and we're talking 2013 ladies! You know what I mean? This means honesty, experience but mostly, lust for what they are doing! The production of this one is crystal clear, and maybe this is a factor were someone might find his black spot, cos in my opinion it wouldn't feel bad with a little more muddy production. Not that this is something to drive you away from it! Xtra plus points for the awesome cover on "Orphans Of Sickness" of Gorguts! All good and all well but the main point of all the crap above is this: Deeds Of Flesh have released a new killer album. Nothing can change that! I believe that fans have already purchased it. As for the rest… you're still here?
