Dimaeon - Collapse Of The Anthropocene
Hailing from the Netherlands Dimaeon have actually been kicking around the underground since 2002 with various EP's under their belts this year's release "Collapse Of The Anthropocene" is their frist full length release.
Dimaeon bring here a respecable stab at progressive death metal in the vein of Opeth, Ihsahn. It's beautifully produced and the songs a well thought out, intricate pieces but the problem lies in the fact that at just over 70 minutes running time it makes the allbum quite hard to digest. It's a struggle to get through in one sitting. There are plenty of long albums out there of course but the difference is when you don't notice the time passing. The songs themselves have so many parts it's hard separate the tracks and pick a standout.
It's all bad news the musicianship is second to none. The music is good! The heavy parts are just as good as any death metal you care to think of and the songs do take the listener on little journeys that are well worth taking. The guitar solo on the title track for example is simply beautiful.
There's alot of potential here. If they learn to trim the fat here and there and concentrate on "the song" and find their own idendity in time Dimaeon have everything to become a household name. If your into prog-metal, rock whatever you want to call it and fancy something new then by all means check this out but it is an effort! It will be interesting to see how this band develops.
