Disinfect - Abaddon
Behemoth meets Nile meets Morbid Angel in this new, third release from the Germans Disinfect. Been 10 years since their previous release but this is one of the occasions we would say that it was worth the wait.
The new album is darker than their two previous ones for sure. Mean riffs followed by rabid blast beats and vocal patterns that spit curses to all directions. 13 new tracks, lasting about 3:30 minutes each, giving out their love for the extreme in its most gruesome way. Swirling riffs, followed by a drummer that possesses tons of techniques in his arsenal. Everything is used wisely and of course Disinfect have the discipline to know when and where to use each beat so that they don't get boring.
Relentless blast beat sections give their place to groovy mid-tempo interleaves and then back to going rabid again. 13 tracks might sound too much for extreme death metal but in their case, the 45 minutes the album lasts are definitely not tiresome at all. The tracks are enriched with leads and mid paced sections in general that tend to take away enough of the heat brought by their savagery when it comes to blasting. Their song constructions might sound packed but they are actually quite simple if you take away the majestic aura brought by the riffs themselves and of course the loud production. Loud and really to the point if I was to make up for my previous phrase.
The mix for "Abaddon" is excellent allowing, everything to be heard but on the same time makes them work as a cohesive mass. From 'Gathering Of Kings' and 'Corpse Colored', to 'Dehydration And Transcendence', to 'After Killing' and they even made it to make 'Reversed' (cover of Illdisposed) sound as it was written for this one. The mastering process just brings out what already was there. Loud and Nasty, relentless and majestic death metal by the 5 German ravagers. Better late than never I'd say and this one is definitely what fans of the genre should already be checking.
