Disowning – Human Cattle

French record label XenoKorp is absolutely on fire at the moment. They haven’t got quite as big a profile as other labels but in terms of quality both in the music they release and quality merch and presentation of their albums they are knocking it out of the park. BE it with new and reissues from Mercyless or new exciting bands like Skinned, Ad Patres and Savage Annihilation. The label finds the balance between classic music that also sounds fresh and different.

Disowning is the latest band on the labels roster. A five piece death metal outfit who are unleashing their first full length "Human Cattle". I hate to do it because as soon as I read the following comparison I switch off because I read it so often but Disowning really bring to mind both Incantation and Immolation and I mean that in the best possible way because I don’t want to switch this off after three songs and play the real thing. While I make the comparison I stress Disowning are not another cookie cutter clone, it’s in terms of tone and atmosphere only.

You could also say the band are doom death metal but the only thing that would make you say that is the fact that the band don’t hide their empty, bland riffs behind a load of mindless blast beating
Disowning have put together 10 concise, layered, melodic thought out emotionally driven songs that are dark as hell. The songs conjure up the dread and hopelessness. Take for instance the hauntingly beautiful solos on 'Battle of Neverness' They are perfectly paced which keeps the songs memorable and album really sails along nicely. “Another Piece in My Collection” actually plays out like a short movie.

This isn’t old school death metal, its timeless classic death metal played by passionate musicians who get it. This is 40 minutes of wonderfully crafted pure death metal.
