Doomed - Our Ruined Silhouettes
We all know by the time were adults that we should never judge a book by its cover. Although at times it seems harder than others not to. Sometimes things seem a bit to simplistic or juvenile. Maybe based off prior clichés or just simply deviating from the norm. Doomed gives us what seemed to be at first a more childish display of what the genre of Doom should be. Even with the name Doomed, it’s a bit easy to be preemptively judgmental. Although what Doomed gives you here on their third full length release hailing all the way from Germany is way more than expected. Oh and if you already judged the album by the cover…. You’re about to be pleasantly surprised.
The second you press play luscious guitar tones will wash over you while barbaric sub human cries slowly grind on your senses. From the get go on “When Hope Disappears“, you can feel the weight of each pick stroke and bass drum hit on ever section. They capture such a smooth yet crushing guitar tone so perfectly. On songs like “In My Own Abyss”, you can hear a strong My Dying Bride influence. They utilize the lead guitar quite well while incorporating great harmonies and overtones, which create more vivid soundscapes. Every song has this feel of endless despair and sorrow to it. The name of the band is quite fitting. You certainly feel doomed for all eternity. A lot of the lead harmonies throughout the record remind me a lot of Opeth.
This is an all around solid record for anyone who enjoys anything heavy and ridden with groove. This a very promising band with tons of talent and I look forward to their future releases.
