Down From The Wound - Violence And The Macabre
Philippines is a place in the map, that caught attention this year due to the continuous disasters it was struck with (earthquakes, typhoons, etc), but besides it's bad luck, it is a really exotic and awesome place that happens to be a brutality breeding machine. Those who haven't checked, will be amazed with the bands coming from the land, and how brutal and raw they sound. Those philippino ravagers here are one of the bands that lead the scene, with continuous presence since 2005 their musical expression being a perfect blend of brutal death metal and slam in a ratio of 40-60.
"Violence And The Macabre'' is their upcoming second full length, scheduled to be released in February 2014 by Comatose Music. Of course we expected nothing less than sheer brutality reeking in every aspect of this one! And this is what they gave us! Their previous album was really promising, and this one just confirms the fact that these brutalers are not another band from the pit, but are here to stay for good! Brutal slamming death metal in its finest form, performed flawlessly from those pinay war machines! The song structures are strong, with the brutal railroad riffing giving it's place to guitar fifths, usually in a lower tempo, followed by extreme drumming that blasts and grooves at will! The patterns are chosen wisely to get the most extreme aspect out of everything! Of course the rest of the instruments, do their work with surgical precision, and this translates to a super fat bass guitar, following the guitar riffs and the drum beats, and a vocalist that apparently swallows spikes for morning and cement for supper!
The album consists of 11 songs, with a medium length of 3:30 minutes each! The production is fat and dirty but it is giving the instruments the proper space to breathe adding this way to the whole brutality this album reeks! The perfect way to start 2014. Relentless and raw tunes from a band that honors Philippines and its extreme scene in the best way. Fuck Christmas and decapitate Santa. This year sets off brutal... Yeah!
