Downstroy - One Size Fits All

As a picky Metal fan it can be hard to listen to new music or new band you have not heard before. You just are almost ready, for a weak spot or disappointment. Listening to this I was initially knocked out, the first three songs had me thinking I could just enjoy the experience nothing weak was coming.
The album starts with an aptly named instrumental "Introduction" it's moment begins eerie and haunting. It builds in complexity into some very elegant and slightly regal guitar playing nothing tricky but solid, very tasteful and well thought out. Staying really flowing with some changes in progression. The second track kicks in as slightly exotic and a bit maniacal, and snaps into a fast punch in the head. This song; "Pride" pumps from high energy to a chugging groove that really draws the listener in, just a great song well done, multiple vocal textures, strong guitar and bass sounds, and tom work to brawl by. "You Are A Fool", gets right to business hard hitting quick cool chord changes that get your mosh on its smart enough to let you breath for the chorus and get right back to hitting hard. Smart lyric and mean chunky finish that has some truly innovative guitar work weaved in for some good healthy WTF was that! Not to mention some brave experimenting with bass sounds that are kinda creapy. "Within Your Skin" had some unnatural drums layered over a snare part early in the song, and conga like sounds in the back ground and changing of over-gated drums made it sound like some parts where sampled if they where not. It still wasn't bad song, but maybe not needed on the album with such a strong start so far, and by this point I was so hoping for near perfection. "Your Game" had a very current American radio metal, hard pop production on it, I listened few times and just could not warm up to it. I actually found it taxing enough that I thought about going back to the first three before listening to the next. Some might like it, it was not for me, a hair too pasteurized. "The Keeper" was quite the same, with tease like there was going be a guitar solo before the bridge, but no. I decided to stop and get a beer and see how long it would take for my pee to freeze on the neighbor's mailbox post, and pilgrim that is bored. "Trapped In A Machine" certainly stayed the course. Like being stuck an elevator with Saving Hanley. Then; "Leave Me Here Die", I won't say it. What showed as capable singer at the beginning of the disc goes into won't sing mumble roar, lyrics unknown with a vocal duet of sixties sissy sweet syrup. The final number was something between punk and french pop, up until the end it was almost interesting but the party whooping seemed like an inside joke no else could care about. I wish I had stopped at the first three, but those are worth listening to, maybe even buying as separate downloads and very good.
