Drag The Dead - Drag The Dead
Hell I like samples... I know there are many out there who find them boring, but I always thought death metal to be a kind of horror movie you don't get to see. You just listen to it. I believe this band shares the same aspect on death metal as I do! In fact in their bio they state that they bring uncanny, unprecedented brutality to the stage and to the ears and IMAGINATION of the listener. They also state that their music has been likened to the act of being bludgeoned to death by a 10 ton wooden hammer dulled by centuries of slamming into rotted earth. Well I can't agree more with that sickoz! The band Drag The Dead, consists of four fine gentlemen from St. Louis Missouri metropolitan area! Their musical style is 2012 brutal death metal that reeks a horror aura! From the intro 'Prelusive Uterine Decimation' to many other samples that interpolate between the songs, and not only that! They take the sample factor so serious that they don't hesitate to have a sample as a complete track ('The Interview Of Lisa Ann Montgomery').
On the musical sector now... when those guys talk death metal, they talk buisness! Their music is like I said before 2012 death metal, with everything this term contains! Tons of blast beats cover riffs that cut your neck from ear to ear. Mid tempo parts that give chills in your spine. A growler that has a great variety of vocals. From ultra death metal growling to more shrieky howls. And all of that applied in brutal riffs easy to memorize, with no extra fuzz than needed, and great song structures that give an interesting tone to the whole thing, blending perfectly the sample atmosphere with the rest of the music, creating their own horror! Now in this part some listeners may find the excessive use of samples distractive or maybe boring, and that is the only reason I have to cut a star on those guys final rating, the urge of being inherent urges me to demote something that I must say again, to my ears it has touched perfection! Everything is there... the brutality of the music, the horror and the atmosphere of the samples and of course lyrical content that flirts with serial killers and murder in general! Song titles as 'Blindsided Menstrual Holocaust', 'Necrology Postmortem', 'Sledgehammer To The Cunt', 'Semen Spilled Upon The Flesh Of The Dead'… you can get convicted in some countries for that man!! haha.
The whole release is swarming in blood and hideous crimes. The artwork is also great although it could have been better! But who cares! It is fine the way it is. At least 2-3 levels above medium. Everything here works for the greater decrease of human kind via murder! It is music like this of Drag The Dead that creates sinister minds. This is a release for future serial killers. Grab a bite sickos. You'll find many ways to slaughter your mother, sister, neighbour, teacher, best friend or a complete stranger with this masterpiece, study it well. But before that… one thing… shake it well to get rid of the xtra blood that is overflowing through that damn rusty platter of demise! Personal message to the boys from St. Louis: Job well done lads!!
