Drift Of Genes - Perverted Memories

Hard workers. That's how I would call a band that drew first breath in 2008, released its first full length in 2009 and since then almost every year they keep the date true by releasing either a demo or a full length. Amazing if you consider that most bands nowadays take long periods of time from one release to the other. This tremendous pace those Ukrainian brutal death metalers follow, have led them to possess 2 full lengths and two demos so far. 2014 is a new year for them and of course it is the time for their new release considering their pace, and of course it had to be a full length.

So Drift Of Genes have done it again and their new atrocity is entitled "Perverted Memories". 10 new songs and 35 minutes of brutal death metal tunes is what those beasts have to offer for 2014 and we bite the bate and take the ride! Brutality is what those guys seem to know well and it it something that gets pretty obvious once the play button is pushed. Lots of good influences spew while the hearing process proceeds. The vocals bring a lot of Chris Barnes, and the whole riffing structure, while brutal, tends to slam it a lot. Which means that the whole material you will have to come upon is groovy enough without the exaggerations that most brutal death metal bands fall into upon their search for brutality.

Technicality is not their top angle, without that meaning necessarily that they lack of it. Their songs are simple in structure, swirling around a main riff or two, building their way through swampy and groovy interleaves that tend to make them heavy and easy to memorize. The way they have set the tracks on the album makes them have a flow from the more groovy to the more xtreme. The titles are the typical gory themed titles, enriched with large doses of humor from which the band does not lack at all. Titles as 'Behold My Incoercible Vomit' will prove my saying. The boys have fun when they play what they play and this is getting pretty clear as the album proceeds. The production helps a lot as it is clear but muddy enough and while this is not the best material you've ever heard, and it is not definitely the album that will change your view on brutal death metal (Drift Of Genes definitely do not claim a prize for their originality), when it comes to fun mood, and a good album to hang out and drink beers to.

"Perverted Memories" is definitely what you want to have. 35 minutes of honest and straight forward brutal death metal. What else do you need in a cold winter's night? Give it a shot and it won't let you down. Nothing more to say here actually. Enjoy their beat and wish em tons of luck in these dark times their country is upon!
