Drug Honkey - Death Dub
Drug Honkey are a band from Chicago, I really have no way to categorise them if I need to! Heavy, disturbing, draining, sludgy and killer would be good places to start.
Every so often a band/album will come along and really broaden your horizons, this has happened a few times for me and one band that has done this recently is Drug Honkey. The album I am looking at is "Death Dub". This for me is one of the sounds of chaos, the sound of desperation, it is one hell of a bleak sound and outlook. There is a wicked groove throughout the album that really draws you into the darkness - that is a huge part of this band for me - atmosphere. The way I feel this album, is like this: it starts out incredidby raw and angry, now don't get me wrong it never lets up but there is a shift at 'China Black (Heroin Pt.2)'. The first part of the album for me is a person crushed by everything around him and then at the aforementioned song he looks up and takes it all on board and continues with what crushed him defeated. The groove in 'Burundi' illustrates this for me perfectly. The way the album is produced as well is a big part too the sound is so bleak and raw and then in parts uplifting when our friend stands up and blows it all away. Drug Honkey are one hell of a find - they are like no other
