Dubiosis - Seinsvergessenheit

Translating as the forgottenness or oblivion of being Germany's Dubiosis hit us with their second full length four years after the debut, as this was out in late 2013. Focused primarily on death metal the band has obviously been taking note of some of their countries more successful modernised death metal acts such Neaera, Heaven Shall Burn and maybe even a bit of Deadlock due to the groove factor deployed by the band in their song writing.

The long intro tune isn't up to much overall but is quickly forgotten about when 'Vergiftet' starts up with its highly melodic and totally accessible riffing patterns. The tune has some deft hooks added for flair and acceptability within the confines of what is accepted within metals more commercial domains. The start of 'Verfälschte Wirklichkeit' is rife with modern core tendencies of the metalcore type, though the density of the music is solidly death metal for the most part especially the deep growling vocal lines with alternating shouts. The music is catchy, but most modern death metal is, the pernicious nature of the scene being weeded out in favour of capturing an audience whose ears prefer melody rather than out and out bludgeoning. All of this is  perfectly fine as many bands have crafted huge careers out of the approach such as Arch Enemy, Amon Amarth and Neaera. Yes I cite Amon Amarth because that band whilst being extremely heavy is saturated in melody and harmony making their music easy on the ear.

Showcasing the bands musical talent is 'Im Wahnsinn Der Rache' with some decent acoustic guitar work before the death metal wagon rolls in, though this tune is close to having a break down incorporated within its ranks which suits me fine but may not for the less open minded listener out there hoping to avoid the commercial tags of metalcore and deathcore being flung about as insults for the sake of it. There are a great many bands out there writing and recording this type of death metal and like the vast majority of them Dubiosis do it with fervour and conviction but as a shade of grey in a grey scale painting of death metal Dubiosis have a lot to do in order to gain colour and stand out amongst the tide of countless acts like this vying for attention not just in their homeland but internationally.
