Dust Bolt - Violent Demolition

This is a German thrash band fresh out with their debut album and there is an immediate impression of a Kreator influence with the stunning opener ‘Opulence Contaminated’ that also has flashes of Testament buried under the complex and intricate guitar riff work. This does sound effortless, fresh, and inviting once the song develops. ‘Violent Abolition’ has a touch of genius in some of the hammer on guitar riffs towards the end of this song, in fact this leads perfectly into the next track and then the next. ‘Deviance’ has a guest appearance of Sepultura’s Derek Green, and sounds like something near to a hybrid of snippets from great albums such as ‘Master of Puppets’ and ‘Practice What You Preach’, there is genuine bay area riff and groove, with further bay area aggression laden with a love for their native thrash style by a real ‘Pleasure to Kill’.

So many influences, so many sounds, the overall result should smack a smile on some miserable one dimensional thrasher’s who think anything after the 80’s is crap. Dust Bolt has a youthful energy, and overtakes some of the current new generation of thrashers by way of their ability to take a basic idea to a different level of entertainment. Entertained is what I certainly am with ‘Violent Demolition’, it does seem genuine, it does not sound like a copycat band, Dust Bolt take you with their ‘Toxic Madness’ and the track itself ensures your neck is rather sore the next day. No thrash album would be complete without a cool piece of artwork, this courtesy of Andrei Bouzikov (Municipal Waste/Hellbringer/Cannabis Corpse/Fueled By Fire) is a perfect real piece of work, very fitting to t a thrash band and something that boosts the cool dynamics of this young German band visually.

What Dust Bolt present on ‘Violent Demolition’ is solid, aggressive and ripping in terms of all that has gone before, there is a genuine level of musicianship and their ability to tie together their arrangements into something that will ensure that you will be involved in a great degree of moshing is pleasing, you better believe it. For a young band, this is a great starting point.
