Dysentery - Fragments

Massachusetts own Dysentery have returned with a massive release entitled “Fragments”. This is an absolutely insane release that can either rattle your bones with extreme sludginess or shred your mortal coil with extreme chaos that is found in abundance throughout this release of metallic splendor.  There is really nothing here that hasn’t been done before but this is one of those cases where the album is so damn brutal that it doesn’t matter. These guys know what the hell they are doing and can ride the storms of metallic glory straight to legendary status on sheer brutality alone. You can put this album up against any classic album released, or any album released in the last 5 years and you can bet that it can hold its own.

Riff wise, you should try picturing something along the lines of a mixture of Broken Hope, Exhumed, Origin, and just a tad bit of Dying Fetus, with a more grinding version of early Suffocation thrown in. You could probably find more influences and vibes in there but these are the ones that stick out the most to me. Some of them could probably even lay more on the grindcore/goregrind side of things. For instance you might notice a bit of Disgorge(Mex) in there. Maybe even a tighter and technical version of Oxidised Razor, but to some that may be grasping at straws. The bass is really nice and thick here, I haven’t noticed too many bands as of late who bring the bass up to the level where it seems to have an equal investment in the music. There have been a few but not many. There is little to no variation on the drumming style here. It’s strictly brutal death metal. Nice double bass work and to top things off I seriously doubt that anything is triggered here. I firmly believe that everything here is due to the skill of the drummer which just adds to the awesomeness of the sound and overall of this album. Sometimes you just have to say fuck it and go for broke and that’s what Dysentery have done here and it really works out. I just can’t say enough how brutal this album sounds. In some instances you might even say that there is a “slam” element here but that’s quite all right. It just makes the whole experience of this album that much better. I really couldn’t follow along with the lyrics much and, as I’ve said before, I really can’t stand that, but this time it didn’t matter. I just sat back and enjoyed this awesome work of metallic greatness. A lot of bands sit down to make an album and want to make the most technically heavy thing possible, while some just want to get together and just go for simplicity and just play as hard and heavy as they can with seemingly little to no direction. Dysentery have found the half-way point. This many not appeal to some fans of brutal death metal but I’m willing to bet that more fans will love this than not.

I would highly recommend this album for anyone into the bands mentioned above. This is what absolute brutality is all about, and Dysentery should not be taken lightly. Comatose Records did an awesome job in releasing this CD. Awesome artwork and layout lets you know what you’re in for, and then when you open the case and put this CD into your stereo and press play, you better hold on to your ass because, with the music on this album, it will be sufficiently kicked!
