Elysian Blaze - Levitating The Carnal
Soundscapes with a atmosphere of cold desolation reminiscent of old Burzum -- Australian black metal band Elysian Blaze comes forth with their second full-length CD in two years, "Levitating the Carnal," a black doom album full of haunting piano lines and guitar tremolos amidst a wall of shimmering distortion and cymbal crashes that echo through your headphones, driving home feelings overwhelming depression. This album is like a grey sky that's not gonna clear up. Don't put on a happy face because reality is bleak and hopeless.
The opening song "Body and Blood" is 3:20 in length, the final cut "Spirit And Night" is 5:00, and the 5 tracks in between are all over 10 minutes in length. What all the tracks have in common is that they form a collective odyssey into a dark and depressive headspace that leaves you entrancing the melancholy. Beautifully and tragically handcrafted by a group of talented musical artists, you really have to admire the way this album can manipulate and intensify your emotions.
