Emily's Bleeding - Bruised

Wiener Neustadt, Austria’s newcomers, Emily’s Bleeding, have subscribed to a true shmorgishborg approach to compete in the ultra polished world of metalcore. There is no one band out there that can be nailed down as a pure inspiration, nor are they a carbon copy of just any one act. They pull from many places, taking a little piece of this inspiration and a little piece of that source to combine together a sound that, while not all that original, is very neatly baked together.

In the ingredient list that we find here there are sprinklings of Darkest Hour mixed with Killswitch Engage, dashes of Pantera combined with Slipknot, All That Remains sifted together with Heaven Shall Burn, newer In Flames marinated in older In Flames and on and on and on. Like I said, there is not just one act that can be used when describing Emily’s Bleeding’s mixture of sound. This jumbilia of variety is what keeps this, their debut album, “Bruised,” fresh and inviting.

This approach of fusion cuisine approach continues right on down to the vocal approach and not just found within the confines of the instrumentation. There is a bed tough-guy hardcore tones accented, deeply, with death metal-ish grunt seasonings and whipped up with your fair share of melodious cleans at just the moment you expect. This medley of flavors on both ends of the spectrum, the vocals and instrumentation, really help make this, “Bruised,” a complete dish.

Although it may be a complete dish it is still not up to most’s fine dining standards. “Bruised” is, as I stated before, Emily’s Bleeding’s debut album and they still have some growing and ingredients to go through before they truly nail down the perfect metalcore dish. The potential and talent is there and “Bruised” is actually quite good but time will honestly tell what Emily’s Bleeding can really do.
