Enthraller - Devil King Of The Sixth Heaven
Enthraller come from sunny Torrance, California and with them the bring you an early 90s feast of death metal. They are like an infusion of every band you like from that period and it can be heard in the Glen Benton/ Deicide esque vocal delivery with the evil highs to the almost Scott Burns esque like production. Even the writing styling are of a fantasy nature... just like in the 90s.These guys really did go sound chasing and found the early 90s sound. Youd be almost fooled you had went back in time to those Morris sound days. The guitar riffs here flow with a nice groove reminding me of one Trey Azagthoth.
Original founding members and brothers, Stephen Bowman on vocals and Ray Bowman (Ray-k47 - cool nickname) on drums. Between these 2 they have forged a fantastic blend of death metal and kudos to them for self financing this cd and getting it out there for its a fine fine listen. The songs are extremely well written with alot of pummeling double bass drumming and blastbeats over some seriously groovy guitar playing with hints of not only Morbid Angel but with breakdowns that Dying Fetus would be jealous of. The band has had some lineup changes over the years to get to this cd but as the Bowmans are together theyll be churn out some seriously fuckin' cool Death Metal. Opener to the album and title track is an absolute stomper and should prepare your ear drums for whats to come.
The musicianship is second to none on the recording and executed with razor precision which can heard in the lead playing. These guys have been very smart intheir writings as they have very much embraced and maintained in the old school but have definitely "stole" some modern writing styles and used them to their total benefits. Solid groovy stuff which I hope gives them the recognition they deserve.
