Extinctionist - Portals Of Extraterrestrial Invasions

After their first full length of 2011 and a split CD in 2013, the time was prime enough for those beasts from Germany to release their new atrocity. "Portals Of Extraterrestrial Invasions" the name and as someone can imagine from the titles the boys love the sci-fi legend. Even if someone does not read between the lines on the title, once the intro breaks in, you immediately get the vibes. Brutal-technical death metal following the path of Deeds Of Flesh, Fleshgrind and other great monsters of the genre. Technical riffs enhance with groovy ones in a deadly swirl of blasting malevolence and ruthless growling. Heaviness combined with extreme performance from musicians who seem to breathe their way through brutal death metal.

Their influences are obvious but on the same time filtered absolutely well to form their unique style. Tight, aggressive and heavy. These are the elements a brutal death metal album should have and trust me when I say that you'll find them in excessive form in this one. Their brutality along with the extraterrestrial samples they applied in some songs, create a really claustrophobic atmosphere that tends to hit you in the gut. The songs themselves are not big in length. 11 songs that last about half an hour which means 2:30 minutes more or less, which adds a lot to the directness of the stuff. Over and over again and each time discovering new stuff to my licking.

The production is a big plus for this second full length of Extinctionist. Crystal clear and heavy. Personally I am a fan of muddy productions but this type of death metal the Germans play, needs clarity so everything can be heard. The boys from Saxony seem to have accomplished a great balance between clear sound and mud in their production. Everything has a special place and can be heard loud and clear but on the same time the feeling of tightness in all the instruments seems to reek in every moment of the hearing process. The album layout is another plus itself. Sci-fi to the bone and really close to the music. It really gives out the horror you're about to encounter. So apparently what we're talking here is a really good package of modern brutal death metal album from one of the most promising bands of the genre out there. Fest your teeth in it.
