Fallen Fucking Angels - Italian Restaurant
This is an Italian band that has a fair few releases under their belt and they have a nice healthy sense of humour with an unhealthy obsession with food! Categorized as thrash metal, their biggest influence to me is Tankard, both in musical style and pace but most notably from the vocal sound of Filippo Belli, who is actually the drummer with backing vocals handled by guitarist Stefano Giusti. ‘Road Pigs On the Highway’ really stands out as a classy tune. Not only do you get thrashed, there are even touches of NWOBHM from the 03:13 minute mark. ‘B Movie Mania’ is a little bit more madcap but the sound remains full of depth, rather than some bands adopting this style who can confuse speed for substance. FFA genuinely have a really mature sound that can fill the room on a whole array of different sound systems and the thing I do get from this release is the level if real fun emulating by doing what they do. ‘Ludicrous Speed’ could be termed as having a slight crossover influence, mainly due to the harsh vocal delivery akin to those aforementioned beer drinkers and if you are tempted by something more then check out ‘Vega(n)azism’ both musically and lyrically.
Although I must admit this took a while to order from this menu, the album certainly grows on you. If Tankard used to have a moniker as “beer drinkers”, then FFA are surely “Food Junkies”! There is a serious delivery in the music, so don’t be put off by this madcap idea I am portraying as there are plenty of chord structures, riffs and tempos that will appeal to tantric thrash music fans that was originally heralded from Germany in the mid-1980’s. Not quite an “all you can eat” experience but I must stress this is certainly no tossed salad. FFA has an appealing musical stance and theme and I can really recommend you listen to this menu thoroughly.
