Faust - From Glory To Infinity
First things first, very bad artwork!!
Now down to business, ladies and gentlemen - Mr Steve DiGiorgio!!! that needed to be cleared up as the man is on this album. The list of who the man has not played with would probably be shorter. Leaving the bass wizard to one side and being conscious of looking at this album based on the music and not who is involved - Daray who has played with Vader and Vesania is also present , is the album any good? The answer is yes indeed it is.
There is a really nice oldschool sound here that I like a lot, the bass is very high in the mix and that is to be expected considering who is playing the bass. This is fine melodic death metal, Aleister keeps it low and has got some killer growls. There is a really nice live sound to the album, very tght but you can picture the guys playing this music, it is not sterile which is incredibly important in this genre.
Apart from the bass playing and drumming mentioned above, the guitar playing here is an obvious highlight - Ghiulz and Aleister peeling off solo after solo but it never gets to the point where you are thinking - "enough!". The solos are always integral to the songs structure and that is key to good solos. The rhythm playing is none too shabby either.
In conclusion this is a great melodic death metal album and adds up to more than the sum of its parts.
